About
About The Care Ledger
A daily report on what health care in the US actually costs, for anyone who pays for it: patients, employers, benefits teams and the people who negotiate the prices.
What it is
The Care Ledger publishes stories about what care costs, with the figures that matter pulled out beside them and every source listed at the end. It covers policy, the market, patients and bills, and research and data. Every figure we have published is collected on one page, and the tools help with your own bills. Stories are drafted with AI and read by an editor before they are published.
Who publishes it
The Care Ledger is published by Soro. Soro audits medical bills line by line against published negotiated rates, and licenses that rate data through Soro Data.
Advertising and independence
The only advertising on this site is for Soro's own products. It appears in panels marked "From the publisher", written by Soro, and never inside a story's text. What we cover and how we check it does not change with Soro's business, and a story mentions Soro only when it is about the price data Soro collects, in one factual sentence at most.
